WELCOME to the third day of Outrigger Island! It was a cloudy start to a morning but that certainly did not damper the spirits of the children.
The VBS theme song thundered once again through the halls of Worship Rally Lagoon as the children gave their best performance yet! After reciting the pledge to the Bible, the children dispersed to their respective classes to learn from scripture. The kindergarteners learnt from Luke 24:1-12, 46-48 which spoke about Jesus resurrecting from the tomb and appearing to his disciples. The message spoke about repentance and forgiveness of sins, and about believing that Jesus is Alive after being crucified on the cross. The rest of the children studied Mark 15:21 – 16:7 which is about Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross at Golgotha which means “The Place of the Skull”. The chief priests and teachers of the law mocked Jesus and made fun of him. When Jesus died, there was a loud cry and the curtain in the temple tore in two. Towards the evening, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for Jesus’ body and placed it in a tomb. After 3 days, Jesus resurrected from the tomb.
At Recreation Reef today, the games conducted were “Reef Ringer Relay” for the Pre-schoolers and the Std. 5 & 6. The objective of the game was to utilize a sponge to transport water from one bucket to another.
“Island Hopping”, an obstacle course was played by the Std. 1-4. The difficulty was adjusted based on the children’s age, so the younger kids had no trouble picking up the game while the older ones had some challenge as well. The games, while not Hawaiian in nature, had elements of islands, sands and water. And we all know children love water games. =D The children were loud, energetic, and definitely eager to win, while not being too competitive. Loud cheers were heard from the kids, cheering on their respective teams. They played fairly and didn’t get too rowdy either. Even though not all the classes were victorious, they still came out pretty happy and proud of their efforts put in to win. Those that did win didn’t get high-and-mighty either. So, congratulations and well done to all!
Please remember to return your Family Day invitation slips tomorrow and don’t forget to wear the VBS shirt for class photos.
